Bar Dumort Deux

Mary looked around the bar, a tired smile adorning her features. The tables were not as new looking as before and the walls had taken on some weird mix of red brick and cement but she still loved the place. She was just glad the bar and the bathroom still looked fantastic. Getting supplies had only gotten harder though. But everything was in stock and running smoothly; You'd have to drag her cold dead body away from the bar for it to get in bad shape. With a heavy sigh, Mary turned the sign infront of the door to open and headed to her place behind the bar.

Lucas wandered into the bar not too long after the opening, and headed straight for one of the bar stools, taking a seat and looking around the bar. The place was empty, and looked better than most of the other places around Empire. The tables, while banged up, fit in nice with the atmosphere. It was a break from the high-tech lifestyle that he had gotten used to in the Spartan's base. It felt like home. Not that any of that really mattered. Lucas was just thirsty and willing to chat.

Balthazaar pulled the hood down over his face more to cover the scrape on his cheek. Most of the maggots had crawled out of the wound, so he figured it wouldnt hurt to go and hit up a bar. Maybe he'd get a lead on his niece.
He stepped inside and sat at the bar, keeping his face down and avoiding the gaze of the young man not far from him.

Mary smiled at the young man to walk in; she had seen him in the bar before. She tugged her blouse into a more comfortable position and brushed her hands on her jeans. She walked over to where he was, throwing the towel she used to wipe down the bar on her shoulder. " What would you like?" she asked, lightly leaning on the bar counter. Out of the corner of her eye she took note of the second person to walk in. Mary wasn't able to see his face but hopefully he wasn't a crazy guy.

Lucas watched the other man enter the bar and sit down. He seemed to have his face covered up pretty well and walked strangely as he entered. Lucas's head set off the warning sirens. This guy was suspicious. The sirens were shut down quickly, though, as Lucas realized that just about everyone in Empire nowadays was suspicious. He turned to the bartender and answered her question, "Do you mix drinks? If so I'll have an A.M.F. It's been a long day."

A small plopping sound was heard and Balthazaar quickly took a fat maggot that had fallen out of the wound in his face and stuck it in his pocket, unsure of how else to handle the pest at the moment. He wrinkled his nose and felt sad.
He was disgusting. He knew he was disgusting. He didn't ask to be this way, it just kind of happened. He waited patiently for the bartender to come to him as he started drawing a diagram with a pen on a napkin.

Mary grinned and nodded her head at the young man. "Coming right up. " she replied, turning to grab what she needed. As she poured all the ingrediants in she grimaced a bit at how hard it had been to get all of it. Luckily she was good at making fast friends especially with her own good friend Benjamin Franklin. While she grabbed the 7-up from the cooler she took a glance at the newcomer and finally getting a good look at his face. Not that it was much of a welcome sight. She just shook it off and finished the A.M.F, pouring in the 7-up and mixing it all before handing it to the young man. She had worked in enough places to have gotten over any type of gag reflex or disgust of people; she no longer had any kind of fucks to give. Mary walked over to the newcomer, smiling a tiny bit. " Can I get you anything?" she asked him, lightly leaning against the counter with her hands.

Lucas nodded at the bartender when she set his drink down. "Thanks." Lucas took a sip of the A.M.F., very much like he was testing the waters. Damn, the drink had a kick, but that was what he asked for. Just as he went in for an actual drink, the communicator on his ear exploded to life, making Lucas spill some of the drink on the counter. "Goddmanitcregnixifiwouldjustgetabreakicouldrelaxbutnoooooyouhadto--" Lucas muttered grumpily under his breath as he reached over the counter to grab a towel and clean up the spill.

Huey walked out to the front of the bar, believing it to be a suitable place to teach some ignorant white people about the government. He set down his soapbox, stepped on top, and gripped the megaphone and fliers he had tightly. He wasn't about to be ignored this time. "The government is lying about 9/11! Jail is only an elaborate ploy, used to lock up innocents!" Huey called out. He tried his best to bring attention to himself and tried to hand out fliers when he could.

Balthazaar glanced up at her and smiled wrly. She was a pretty young thing. He'd have liked to ask her out if his own persona wasn't so unattractive. "Whiskey on the rocks," He rasped. Then he took out a photo and pushed it over to her. "Have you seen this girl? She's my niece,"

The photo of Ari was a few years dated, one year before the blast. She was sitting with a big, old looking labrador retreiver whose tongue lolled out far enough to lick her cheek, and though she looked half grossed out in the photo, it was clear she was laughing too. "She should be here in this city. A good mechanic, looks about seventeen..."

Mary quickly looked over to the young man as she heard a drink spill and sighed. At least he was cleaning up. She couldn't ask for much better. She turned back to the newcomer,keeping a small smile on her face. He looked sick, but not like he would be a problem. She simply nodded at his question and turned to make his drink. As she handed him the run she looked over the picture. The girl did look somewhat familiar but she couldn't exactly place it. "Well She doe-" she stopped midsentence after hearing ranting coming from outside. Ranting was annoying and annoyance was unnatractive to costumers. " Excuse me for a moment." she said smiling at the newcomer before grabbing her shotgun and jumping over the counter to the door. She opened it and grimaced seeing a young boy. " Will you shut up if I give you a soda and put your fliers near the door so people will grab them?" she asked tiredly, getting the jist of his little show as she stood halfway out the bar door.

Lucas looked around the room, noticed no one was washing, and used his powers to blow dry the counter. Tossing the rag lazily back under the counter, Lucas got up and walked over to the other man, looking over his shoulder at the picture. "She's a bit young for you, isn't she? But, hey, who am I to judge? Why are you lookin' for here?" Lucas recognized this girl from somewhere around the Spartan's base. She was like Cregnix, but...the lightbulb went off in Lucas's head as he remembered this girl was the newest mechanic.

Huey sighed and just took the offer. "Whatever. I'll take what I can get, I guess." He crushed the soapbox underneath his feet and, picking up all of the lumber, threw it off to the side into an alley where it landed and stacked itself neatly. He set down the megaphone somewhere near teh street, but kept his fliers in hand.

Balthazaar chuckled and coughed, wiping his mouth gently. "She's my niece.... She, er... ran away from home and I went looking for her. Her names Ari..." He murmured, lending the young man the photo as he took a sip of whiskey. "But I do agree. I'd think men her age would be flocking to her... She's quite the cutie." He smiled a little. "But her love of mechanical stuff definetly isn't very feminine."

Mary smiled as the young boy got off the soap box and it quieted down. She had heard all the ravings right after the blast; Hell, she heard people complaining about the governmemt everyday. And she didn't mind it because those people had money in their pockets and purchased drinks in their hands. The young boy didn't have either so she wasn't dealing to deal with him. Asking for a little quiet could not have been that bad. "What kind of drink would you like ?"she asked him, jumping back over the counter flawlessly and resting her shotgun back in its holster underneath the counter. Waiting for him to reply she glanced at the other two costumers who looked like they were conversing. The counter looked dry where the young man had spilled his drink and they both looked content so she stayed with the kid. It still did bug her she couldn't remember where she had seen the girl but with all the sleepdreprived walking around she did she was sure she had run into her.

Something told Lucas that he could trust this man, so he pointed down at the picture. "If she likes mechanical stuff then the girl I'm thinking about has to be her. There's too many coincidences. If you really need to find your niece then I have a decent idea of where she would be." Lucas couldn't really stop himself from offering help. He had never really had a family, so he didn't really know what the bond between an uncle and a niece was. He did, however, wish that most families didn't have to be separate due to the blast.

"I'll take a Coke if that's not too much of a problem." He said calmly, setting down the fliers in an noticeable enough area. He took notice of the two other people residing in the bar. Both male, one young, one likely in his older 20s. Caucasian. One looked rather sickly. He noted this mentally and remembered to keep his inferred information in mind. Remaining calm as always, Huey waited silently.

Balthazaars eyes widened and he looked up at him completely. A few maggots dropped from the flesh of his skin and crawled inside his jacket, making him shudder. This was his chance. "Take me to her," He pleaded to the young man.

Mary Ann rolled her eyes as she jumped back over the counter. She really hoped that kid wouldn't cause too much trouble. She grabbed a coke while stealing a glance at the other two customers. She smiled a bit seeing that they looked content. A couple of more customers trickled in as she hoped over the counter once again, coke in hand. " You have to promise bot to be screaming and making a fuss in front of my bar anymore, understood?" she asked the young boy, sliding him the coke. She really had no time for any shenanigans. The bar would fill up quickly after 6.

Lucas nodded. He reached in the pocket of his khakis and pulled out a crumpled up paper that doubled as a Spartan business card for him. "I knew Cregnix gave us these things for more than just recruiting..." He mumbled to himself as he tried to unfold it and smooth it out to make it more acceptable to present to the man. If he had looked up, he would've seen the maggots, but the paper held his attention just long enough. He handed it to the man, having the address of the hotel that the Spartan's base was located under. "Just meet me there, I have to do some other stuff first." Lucas said, leaving the bar. A visit to the old Radio Shack was in order.
