Subject: Welcome to the Hospital Wed Jul 17, 2013 11:05 pm

Lucas found himself in a hospital bed in the infirmary at the Spartan base. He remembered the fight, and then...nothing. He must have blacked out sometime in the fight. Sighing, Lucas sat up, which was not the greatest idea. He got a few inches off the bed before he let out a cry of pain that might have been heard by every single Spartan member. Judging by the clock on the wall, it might have woken up ever member as it was early in the morning. Looking down, Lucas saw his bare chest was wrapped up with about a dozen Ace bandages, and his left arm was in a cast. His boomerang was sitting on the table next to him, and he reached over carefully and picked it up with his good arm. Taking a new approach at standing up, Lucas used the wind to lift him up gently and rotate his legs over the bed. Seeing as someone was kind enough to leave a pair of pants, Lucas slipped them on with some pain and limped across the infirmary, heading for his hanger-like room.

Julia was sitting right outside the infirmary, sketchpad in her lap and legs brought up close to her chest. She was drawing away with her back against the wall. Around her neck there were several bandages and a slight brace. From what she remembered, that android that she had been fighting choked her and she passed out. Apparently he was choking hard enough for her not to be able to speak, as she had learned earlier that her vocal chords were still rather frazzled. So all she had was her sketchpad. And there Julia sat. Scribbling away with her pencils.

Lucas limped out of the infirmary and almost jumped when he saw Julia. He recovered fairly quickly, though. "Hey...you're Julia, right? Are you alright? You and I took a fairly large beating..." Truth was, Lucas was more worried about Julia than he was himself. The android, from what he remembered, had been choking her. At one point, Lucas had even thought she had died. It was good to see that she was alright, even if she had a few bandages here and there.

Julia nodded at his question and flipped to a new page of the sketchpad. She quickly drew something then showed it to Lucas. It was a rather nice picture of her giving a thumbs up, signifying that she's fine. She pointed at her throat, though, then opened her mouth and moved her lips in a talking fashion, before shaking her head. Basically, she was explaining that she could not speak.

It took Lucas a few seconds to figure out what she was trying to do. "A thumbs up? You want to be Facebook friends or somethi--" Lucas was cut off by her gestures, which made the situation make more sense. "Oh...oh, God. You can't talk? That isn't...that's not permanent, is it?" Lucas said, imagining a life without talking. He was a teenager, just like Julia (though she was a few years older), so he assumed she relied on speech as much as he did.

Julia shook her head and turned to another page and wrote on the paper. In her surprisingly neat handwriting, she wrote out the words. 'I hope not.' And drew a picture of herself in the lower corner, scowling. She showed it to Lucas. Julia didn't enjoy having her voice gone. With not many people understanding sign language fluently like herself, she had to be limited to her sketchpad. That seriously took away from her witty midfight banter.

Lucas nodded, "I'm sure everything will turn out alright. It always does for people like us." Lucas grabbed a clipboard and pen off the wall which had some official-looking documents on them. Frowning, Lucas took the paper and flipped it over to reveal the blank side. "I figure that we're gonna be recovering for awhile, you and I. Maybe you could show me how to draw Facebook thumbs like that?" He grinned sheepishly. "We could get the other guys to maybe play a bunch of Pictionary, yeah?"

Julia grinned a little and scribbled down a word beneath her last message. 'Sure. Although I'd love to see The Darkness sit down and try to play Pictionary.' While she didn't actually laugh, Julia covered her mouth and acted as though she was giggling, playing out the motions. 'Alright then, so, where would you like me to start?' She asked through written question.

Lucas grinned at the idea. He could imagine how The Darkness would react to such games. Lucas scribbled down his drawing of a thumbs up, showing it to Julia. "See? I could build thumbs like this out of Minecraft blocks. How do you get it so...realistic?"

'Practice.' She scribbled a large scribble squiggle underneath the word 'Practice.' 'Lots of practice and looking at real fingers. Like, this.' Julia showed Lucas the picture of The Darkness she had drawn with him as Batman. 'Don't tell him about it, he'll have my ass.' She said, grinning slightly.

Lucas laughed, which hurt like hell, but felt good at the same time. The drawing was ridiculously good. "Oh, God, that picture was worth the thousand words..." His grin turned into a frown when he realized what he had just said, "Oh, no...sorry, that was just a really bad way to put it." Lucas hoped she wasn't upset about it. "But that's some good advice. I'll try it out whenever I have time. I guess it also means I owe you something in return. If you ever need anything, don't be afraid to ask."

Julia waved off both his apology and his offer, but smiled. 'Meh, not insulted. Just a pretty awkward coincidence. And as for the owing me, pssh, all I ask is that you keep this hush hush from the other Spartans. We don't want The Darkness to find out, eh?' She pressed a finger to her lips and did the whole 'Ssssshh.' thing. She grinned a bit.

Lucas nodded, "Your secret's safe with me." He put the clipboard back. "Hey, have I ever shown you my room here?" Lucas asked, wanting to get moving around a bit. The infirmary made him uneasy. Being underground just made it worse. He could use the fresh air of his room, and it would be nice to grab a coffee on the way there if they were to walk through the cafeteria-type room.

'Nope, can't say that you have. Would you like to show me?' Julia asked. Anything to get up and stretch her legs, really. She would've taken any opportunity. Plus, Lucas interested her. She wondered what his room looked like, actually. Julia pondered on this silently as she waited for his response.

"Care to go on a walk, then?" Lucas asked, nodding towards the hallway that would eventually lead to his room. "It's just down the hall. I think you'll really like it."

'Sure. I don't mind a little walk. Might be nice.' Julia said, standing up and stretching. She had been sitting outside the infirmary for a long amount of time. She had almost forgotten what walking felt like.

Lucas felt like an old man as he limped down the hallway, slowing down whenever the pain in his sides came back. Eventually, though, the two made their way to Lucas' room, which was represented by a suspiciously normal-looking door. Lucas grinned at Julia before opening the door, bracing for the slight impact that the wind always made when entering the room. Lucas grinned as he was hit in the face with a blast of fresh air. Limping inside, he looked around. The room was almost a hanger, large and fairly empty despite one corner which held a bed and a few shelves and drawers that held all of his old stuff from before the blast and some stuff from after it, too. The wind flowed well throughout the room, circulating in fresh air to replace the stale, underground air that Lucas hated.

'Wow.' Julia didn't have to right it down. Her expression basically said it. Snapping from her awe and scribbling along on her sketchpad, she held it up to show it to Lucas. 'Cregnix never disappoints, does he?' She asked, looking around the large room. If she had this much space, she'd make a shooting range. What? Julia liked guns. It was pretty clear.

Lucas grinned, "Cregnix is gonna be lucky if he manages to pay this entire base off within a few years. I don't even want to know where he gets the money for this stuff!" Lucas limped over to his bed, setting down his boomerang on the stand next to it. "So," He said to Julia, "If the Doom or somebody else comes knockin', are they going to let you fight in this condition?"

Julia shrugged. 'I can't talk, I can still shoot and punch. Honestly, I'd think I have a better chance against an enemy than you. It might be hard to avoid attacks with a limp like that.' She drew a little picture of herself giggling and she showed the message to Lucas with a bit of a grin.

Lucas gave her a joking glare, "Ha ha, very funny. I'll have you know that I could fight just fine with a limp as long as I was in the air. Probably." He paused, thinking, "Actually, I really doubt I'd be of any use in combat right now. I'm not exactly in the best shape if I can't even lift my arms over my head." He picked up the boomerang and tossed it with his good arm, letting the winds twist it around on a continuous path. He didn't like the feeling of being this useless. It made him feel caged up and restrained, almost claustrophobic.
