I figured a lot of you would have some questions about the Templars weapon and suppresser, the Tainted shards. If you have any questions feel free to type them in response to this topic and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

The Tainted Shards

Tainted shards are a suppressant mineral that look similar to amethysts, their ability in opposition of Blast cores, or shards. Rather than giving a conduit more power, it weakens it.
What it does exactly is not draw the power out of the conduit it is touching, but suppressing it. This is both effective and highly dangerous when used on a conduit. Though the power of the conduit is suppressed, it is still there; and should a conduit be surrounded by tainted shards for an extended period of time the suppressed power becomes that of a ticking time bomb from lack of use, and build up of the energy behind the source of the conduits ability.
Note: It has been found that the Shards can repel certain conduit attacks, making it a sheild of sorts.
A good example is my character Sena. She'd been with the Templars for years wearing the Tainted Shard around her neck before she lost control of her ability; and due to the extreme build up of energy being surpressed behind it, her power took on its own persona--Shade.
Prior to her being with the Templars, Shade did not exist---at least not in the form she is now. Now, because of Shade, Sena has to constantly wear the tainted shard in order to barely supress Shade, though is more careful to use her abilities more often so that it won't build up nearly as bad ever again.

The Suppression of abilities has more than physical side effects however. It's also very taxing on the mental state. The following are some mental side effects found in the Templars 'guinea pigs' during testing of different forms of the Tainted Shards:

  • Amnesia
  • Delirium
  • Impulse-control Disorders (Including Kleptomania, Pyromania, Trichtillomania, and pathological gambling.)
  • Depression
  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Insomnia

  • Insanity
