These Shattered Streets

Sena crouched in the corner of the alleyway, hiding away from the last of the sinking sun. It hurt her, the light. Made her feel nauseous, and incredibly weak... Which is why only at night did she come out to travel.
Soon, the sun died over the water and she slipped out into the streets, barely lit by the occasional unbroken street lamp. In the distance there was the sound of gunfire, but by now she was used to the noise.
Tonights the night, Sena decided, I'm going to find him tonight.

Simon "Eyes" Anderson was sprinting down the street, pursued by a Reaper. Eyes had been having a great day. He had been unnoticed by all the citizens of Empire City until his sunglasses had fallen off. Underneath his sunglasses were his eyes, the source of his nickname. The eyes glowed a bright green, as if on fire. If he could just touch the Reaper following him he would be able to search his mind for all weakness. Unfortunately, Simon couldn't touch the Reaper. As he ran he turned and pulled out his knife, throwing it on the run. It hit the Reaper between the eyes, killing him instantly. Simon retrieved his knife and noticed that the sun had set.

Sena, who had been just coming out of the alleyways, looked up just in time so see a Reaper getting killed via knife to the face. Curious, she quietly crept up to the edge of the alleys, trying to get a better look at the dead reaper. She was so enamered with the corpse, she was startled when a man with strange eyes came into view, causing her to step backwards. In her haste, she tripped over her feet and into some partially full garbage cans, creating a loud noise.

Simon looked up immediately at the sound, his head snapping to attention. "Who's there? Show yourself!" He pulled out the knife, ready to attack. It was probably just some harmless citizen, but you could never know.

Sena, her head bleeding a little from scraping it against the wall, sat up to rub it. "O-ow..." She looked up at him, her grey eyes glowing like the full moon in the shadow of the alleys. "No! I-I'm sorry I tripped...!" She scrambled to pick herself up, worried he might hurt her.... she couldn't have that.

"Oh," It was just some stupid person, "Never mind. I just don't want any more of them Reapers following me 'round." Simon said with his heavy southern accent. He was in Empire City for a few weeks, but that didn't mean he lived there.

Sena came to the edge of the shadows in the alleys, but no further than that. "You don't sound like you're from around here...." She murmured, looking at his knife. "That was a good shot. . . Say, um," She stammered, "You wouldn't of happened to see a guy around here, have you?

Simon looked at her, "I'm from New Marais. I didn't see anybody except for you and him, why?"

Sena, her shoulders slumping, whispered; "Oh... I see. I'm... looking for someone." She looked back up at him, her yes still slightly glowing in the shade when she notices his eyes. "You're a Conduit?"

"Yeah, and I guess you are too?" Simon paused, "I bet I could help you find this person."

Sena hesitated as the sun sank fully below the horizon, and in the darkness, stepped up to him. She smiled politely, but bowed her head. "Thank you," She murmured, "But... I don't even know what He looks like... I can't even give you a description." She scratched the back of her head, sighing.

"I...I have these supposed 'powers' that let me sorta 'look through' people's minds. Maybe I could recover your memory of this guy." Simon sort of smiled, a half smile, a semi-smile and put his hands in his pockets.

Senas eyes widened in awe and she put her fingers to her lips. "Oh... you're a Conduit?" She didnt even try to mask her surprise.

Simon flared up his eyes, making them burn with an even more intense green light, "Well, yeah. Are you one of us?"

"W-well... Um, Yeah." She smiled sheepishly, admiring the way his eyes brightened. "At least... that's what 249 said I am." She turned away from the intensity of his eyes, not wanting to rude with her awed staring.

"249? Who's that?" Simon said, asking with interest. He could have just touched the girl's head and known immediately, but most people considered that rude and rather offensive.

Sena shrugged slightly and played with the fabric of her sweater. "Oh, just a good friend. Don't worry about it." She let go of her sweater and looked up at him. "Did you get your powers in the blast?"

Simon laughed awkwardly..."Uhhh...not really. I kinda didn't look both ways while crossing the street and got ran over by a semi truck. Knocked me in a coma and activated my powers." He paused, "What about you?"

"Hit by a sem.... what's a semi?" She blinked, genuinely confused. "Well... I don't know where my powers came from. I can't remember anything from before the blast at all. . ." She scratched the back of her head, sighing. "I've been living on... well, whatever's around. This nice guy from something called... One daughter? No, no that's not it... " She scratched her head, biting her lip as she stuggled to remember. "Oh... First Sons. He told me I should wait in one place, so some of his friends could come and get me. But He scared me, so I ran..."

"Yeah, a semi...you know, one of those huge trucks that hauls stuff across the country?" Simon listened as the girl told him a bit of her history, "Good choice. I've heard of the First Sons, not a whole lot of 'em are nice to conduits. At least that's what I hear...What's your name?"

She looked up at him and blinked. She stuck her hands into her pockets and pulled out what looked like an old band ad, with its edges ripped and coffee stains all over it. It reads: 'SENA!' in a large gothic font, a giant cross with blood dripping off of it is behind the letters. Below that most of the words holding the details are gone, but what can be read is 'tonight on--!! playi-- in -------------------------------- Admission $-.50'

"I... Don't know what my name is, but... I saw this and I thought it was cool." She crouched down and pulled what looked like seeds out of her pocket, and tossed it on the ground where a few birds gathered to peck at them. "You can call me Sena... Crosse."
